In the genesis of democracy, the wise Solon passed on the first laws, entrusting their interpretation to 400 representatives, elected from the aristocracy by the demos, the people. Yet, this was but the dawn of a dynamic, evolving system.
It was during the era of Cleisthenes that the power of the aristocracy was truly shattered, and democracy as we understand it today began to take shape. In an act of astounding innovation and foresight, Cleisthenes restructured the city-state of Athens into 10 tribes, each named not after the powerful aristocratic families of old, but after mythical heroes of the Greek past. Furthermore, he partitioned Athens into three regions: the coast, the city, and the inland, ensuring that each tribe was evenly represented across these regions. In the spirit of Cleisthenes, we have chosen to establish 500 spaces across the globe.
